Econet works in the environmental services sector and needed an integrated management system to ensure regulatory compliance, access to public tenders and continuous improvement of its performance.
The need
Three separate certifications (quality, environment, safety) would have meant triplicated manuals, procedures and audits. Forgest proposed a single integrated HSEQ system with a shared manual, shared procedures and shared audits.
A risk-based approach
We applied the logic of risk-based thinking following the High Level Structure of the ISO standards:
- Analysis of the context and of the stakeholders.
- Identification of risks and opportunities for each process.
- Definition of measurable objectives and system KPIs.
- Lean operating documentation, calibrated on the real processes.
- Planning of internal audits and of the management review.
Implementation
- Integrated system manual referring to all three standards at once.
- Common operating procedures for document control, audits, non-conformities and corrective actions.
- KPIs consolidated on a dashboard accessible to management.
- Internal auditor training qualified on HSEQ.
Certification and maintenance
Forgest supported the company through the certification audit, which was passed. The relationship continues with:
- six-monthly internal audits on specific processes;
- annual surveillance audits carried out by the certification body;
- an annual management review with a summary KPI report and an improvement plan.
Result
Compliance with three international standards through a single system, a lighter documentary load and lower audit costs, easier access to public tenders that require HSEQ certifications.
